During the high-tech milling process an extremely high mechanical energy is put into the system. Since energy is never destroyed nor created new, but only transformed from one form to another, a small part of the mechanical energy is transformed to heat due to friction. Most of energy, however, is transformed to activation energy of the milled particles. Due to their collision with extreme high speed their lettuce is deformed, not only at the surface layers, but also at the layers underneath. Furthermore, and that is the most important form of the tribo-dynamic activation of the particles, the electric charge within the particle becomes polarized in that the negative charge is shifted to the particle surface, while the positive one remains more or less at the center.
The Hitec Nano Mill consists of two counter-rotating rotors wheels with a number of concentric rings made of steel, diamond and high grade ceramic on which impact material is arrayed. Attaining to rotors speed of up to 20,000 revolutions per minute, the particles collide with each other at supersonic velocity every 1/10,000 of a second and are thereby crushed down even to nano dimensions.
